Eternal Emperor - Ch. 3 - The Arrogant Ba Family

thx for your work i like this manhua but why are all the patriach so young?

She's not 9, she's the ninth born, that's why she's called jiumei (aka Ninth Sister)

@raltzero
She is 9 years old and is called jiumei, if the info was only the "jiumei" name that would make sense, but there are 2 bubbles saying that she is nine years old.

That is the most probable explanation, also if she was the ninth born, that would mean that necessarily there were 9 brothers and sisters in the family... which would not make sense, if there were all these brothers then when our MC became a crippled the second older brother would become the patriarch, but as you can see, that's not what happened, even if we think that he became a crippled recently, the third uncle would not try to become the patriarch by only killing the MC, since the next in the succession line would be one of those nine brothers.

Of course, that's all deduction, the scenery can change in the next few chapters, but it's pretty unlikely to happen.

@skyron
Since she actually is 9 years old, why not just straight up call her something like "9YO Little Sister"? Calling her "jiumei" is extremely confusing(imo) since it usually means "Ninth Sister".

I'm actually curious where you found those 2 bubbles stating that since I looked over the raws for chapter 3.
Edit: Nevermind, I found the 2 bubbles you were talking about(in Chapter 1) and I still stand by either calling her "Ninth Sister" or "9YO Sister". The first mention is 九小姐(Ninth Young Miss/Ninth Miss) and it doesn't seem to be an issue. The second is the 9-year old mention on the next panel.

I get that you believe that there is a correlation between the age and status, but if you take into account the fact that it's a servant giving the news to the Patriarch, I don't think a servant would refer to Nie Yurou by her age unless the 2 had a bad relationship. Maybe I'm just not watching enough Chinese dramas, beats me.

Also a note: it's not uncommon that clans in settings like these have multiple siblings. They could all come from different mothers, yet still be nicknamed after the order they were born. First born = First Brother/Sister, second born = second brother/sister, etc etc.

@raltzero that can make sense, i've tried to dm you but mangadex system is under maintence, can u call me on discord? if that's really the case next chap i'll put a explanation note

@skyron You forgot that the medieval family in East Asia usually born many childs? In Vietnam, my father has 6 brothers and sisters, my mother has 7 brothers and sisters. In medieval era, a family give birth many but also die many due many situations, mostly lack of advanced healthcare like today. The little girl is ninth child of the family but not necessary the middle brothers and sisters still alive or present at same time in same house.
