Are there any special settings/requirements to avoid this?

It probably tells you in the Bocchi instruction manga. Unfortunately, it is that manga that I am receiving this error. Hitting the reload is does not seem to be fixing it.

Try switching off (or on) the MD-AT-HOUSE option.
