so, MD currently has more than 30k titles, out of which, a certain portion is being actively scanlated, while the rest have either been abandoned or have their status unknown.

As a scanlator who often looks out for the latter, it would be very beneficial, if the search function was extended to also sort titles, whether it's JP, KR or CN; by the status of scanlation.. similar to what mangaupdates has (under it's 'advanced search' option, you can search for titles that have been licensed/unlicensed as well as for titles that have had no /a single/ a couple releases).

Essentially, not only does the search function sort by the 'publication status', but also the 'Scanlation Status' which could have the following options:
-> Progressing (if the latest chapter was released within the last 6 months)
-> Standby (if the latest chapter was released within the last 6 month to a year)
-> Dropped (if it has been a year or more since the last chapter was released)

Thank you.

@AbyssalMonkey and @blackyawgdom fair enough.

How about automating the process?

Essentially, assign a bot or something that keeps track of the release frequency and automatically assigns one of the 3 status, depending on the situation.

If people have to manually update the status, shit like what you mentioned happens... if a bot does it, there's no room for error. Groups releasing chapters within said time period retain the status... if not, their status would automatically be updated. As simple as that.

Also, if the word 'dropped' is uncomfortable, perhaps it could be substituted by another word? It could be proposed for discussion among the staff members.

I think this is a great suggestion that's pro-scanlator... Of course, it has it's flaws.. but I believe this can be resolved by discussions amongst the concerned members.

We talked about this in discord, and to summarize:

- We don't want to take an official stance on what should be considered dropped or not, and determining it automatically would have a variety of issues anyway including author hiatus, multiple groups, groups that don't upload to mangadex etc.
- The actual underlying problem here is searching for manga that haven't had updates in a certain language for a given length of time, something that improved search functionality should address regardless of marking things as dropped or not. "Last Updated" doesn't currently work as a solution because it doesn't take the chapter language into account, but this is on the to-do list anyway.

Marking as Rejected to reflect the decision about scanlation status, although the actual improvements have already been planned for a good while.
