I think that cause translation and stuff the concept is not delivered properly: he hate that fantasy.
He consider it a failed at life's dream, for bullied crybabies that are laughed at and/or ignored by girls. People with no friends cause they suck too much at socializing.
He was a guy with friends, living a decent life he was comfortable with. So he ask his killed companions "why i must be the same as these loosers?"

@CalamityCallout It seems like she wants the hero to be a hero, and isn't satisfied with just getting the job done. She could probably kill the demon lord herself considering she's a god. She wants Spider-Man instead of The Punisher, she wants a hero people will look up to (hence his reputation being rated) and kind of hold onto. "The hero we've remembered for generations" kind of deal. While she's probably VERY evil I wouldn't be surprised if it is all just her trying to get her fantasy ending.

this is a downgrade from the novel, it doesn't accurrately portray how much of a sociopath the protagonist really is. I found it really funny.

Also, it doesn't explain how brutal and egotistical those companions really were. They used him as a tool and forced him to do tons of stupid shit. They never truly cared for him. The only party member that cared about him died early on... All for the sake of cliche fantasy world tropes that the MC doesn't tolerate as a "sane and rational" individual.
