Its hilarious. All the people complaining about his actions are not able to actually consider what is morality and justice in this world. They just judged based on superficial motives. Hes an evil dude but most of his actions make plenty of sense you just dont like it because hes not some blond haired paladin saying these things.

The sorta kindness those judges are asking for is a superficial justice that makes you happy but not actually fixing much of anything.

Honestly, everything he did made sense in this chapter. He killed the criminals per the law, holding everyone to justice regardless of status. The princess would have been forcibly married off anyway, as nobles are, and this gives a decent man a chance to be king while maintaining the "holy" royal line to keep the citizens happy. Well done, MC.
