I feel like this has reversed from what I thought was the original premise, by now: Rather than the girls being the weird ones and having the guy call it out, it seems more and more like he's just a blunt dumb-nut who can't read the atmosphere (though I suppose his single-minded directness would be in it's own way plausibly endearing).
