Yup, its basically like luwak coffee.
Luwak coffee is coffee fruits eaten by ferret-like animal name Luwak, after they digested the coffee fruit the poops out the seeds which later cleaned, roasted and used for coffee powder.
Supposedly the luwak digestive system fermeting the coffee seeds and makes it taste softer

So, basically it's Luwak Coffee for Rice... got it. That said, the mangaka really know how to make awesome characters. Some of these creatures looks fantastic!

My gut instinct on the girl with the camera is that she's another sort of plant being, though this may just be her ahoge/cowlick looking like blades of grass to me. She does admittedly look more human than any of the other NPC spectators.
