The prince is on top of his smooth womanizing game, I'll give him that. A perceptive fake scumbag to pair with a shrewd fake villainess, sounds like a good match to me.
That said, I do find the political reasoning to be...kinda stupid? What, does the royal family not make a habit of marrying the other high-ranking royal families?
It's a shame if you can't make ties to royalty, but it's also incredibly petty and short-sighted to start a war over it. She shouldn't have kept quiet about it either. If the ducal houses are essentially plotting an insurrection, then that should be snuffed out early and promptly.
