This kind of reminds me of what a Japanese friend told me once about how some students are treated by teachers. That is, that some teachers will consider it the victim's fault for being bullied and will admonish them for it. The idea being that if you're being bullied, it's because you yourself are bad. That way of thinking can also be why child abuse victims have such a hard time as well.

I for one am really liking the manga - I'm realising that the title here is very, very literal.

So yes, their logic is virtually nonsensical. All the characters here are messing with themes that seem stupid in comparison. Welcome to puberty, people. I actually enjoy how these kids are trying to deal with these problems in ways that pubescent people would - with anger (male MC), blind optimism (female MC), and jealously (crush subject). This manga really is meant, literally, "for imperfect people".
