I tried to say that maybe in Indonesia the standards of seriousness are hair with a standard cut, no tattoo, no piercing, no earrings, etc. Again, I didn't try to offend anyone's cultural standards.

Hi! Yes, I do agree with you. We shouldn't stigmatized people just because one's particularly looks, and the western countries are better in that case.

But in my two cents, we also could see this from different perspective. This comic will contain LOTS of metaphorical things. Maybe (the readers are free to interpreted it differently anyway), by removing his piercing, it metaphorically shows that he is ready to be a better person his son could look up into. He doesn't want his son to take the same pathetic path he once went, as far as temporarily abandoned his wife.

But don't forget the fact that the Mother, an innocent girl, fell in love with the Father despite of his look, though she thought it badly before. That means, there are people here in Indonesia who also think the same or could change his/her initial mindset.
