Alas, another one of these where perfectly good character writing is ruined by the author going, "and now, rape! Isn't it romantic?!"

This goes even beyond the usual yaoi "extremely dubious consent" thing, so I've added a sexual violence tag.

So in case anybody has read this and is interested in what happens later, I wanted to mention that I’ve been translating the light novels that this one shot is based on. Out of all the English-translated versions of the first book, I feel like the original novel is the best when it comes to conveying what happens in the

rape scene (though it’s obviously still bad...) because it is from Yuuki’s POV, and makes it a little more obvious that Kei couldn’t hear him protest. Also, it makes it fairly clear that Yuuki is upset about the situation and Kei feels terrible about what he did.

Also, there are 50+ novels in the series that has been ongoing for over 25 years, due mostly to the relationship at the core of the series. It’s not devoid of tropes, but the author definitely fleshes out the world around the characters.
