@Akikako to awaken the Hero's potential and make him be part of their cause to defeat the demons willingly. The path was laid for him so they could use him , but having him push forward because he was forced isn't as good as having him always remember that "the demons are bad and need to be stopped so people don't suffer what I suffered", that way he gets the driving force that pushes him forward in the journey no matter how bad things look.

It makes a lot more sense than the Princess doing, well, everything she had done up to now.
