you know... when this first started, i was interested in the aspect that this was what would happen when a lawful good boy scout of a isekai hero would do if everyone betrayed him, killed him then he came back and started returning the favor. we've gone way past the point of justice and now someone just needs to run a flaming steamroller over the kingdom to bring justice and order back to the land.

now it feels different. i understood letting the princess fester for a while. i understood giving the general a piece of his own medicine. this just felt out of place for some reason. sure he put on the vengeance circus act like he did for the last two arcs but this somehow felt like he was doing it less because they deserved it and more like he wanted to just do some fucked up shit.

i don't know. it's all fucked up but the heart was in the right place. not anymore.

@ninjazz There has been a noticeable descent into wanting to add "fun" into the torture by offering hope and taking it away for sure.

But whether he's gone down to the level of the monsters who created him, I think we will see soon. So far it has been people with individual guilt of decidedly evil things, with the weakest case being that perhaps some low-level scientists were actually "just following orders".
But this is a village that maybe just didn't dare to let people who looked like monsters in. And even if the decision-makers knew they were soldiers, knew they were no longer dangerous and knew that water would save them - does this mean that everyone in the village is culpable? Women? Children?

So basically, whether he kills everyone in the village or not would be my litmus test for whether he's gone off the edge or not.

The arc after the village arc is basically the last one in vol1 of the novel. The writing stays shit until the very end in the novel, so I don't really have any hopes for this.

@Simpleton From my point of view the guy is just bat shit crazy. He's gonna end up wiping out anyone and everyone. Doesn't really matter how much a person contributed to the crimes. If you're related to it, even if your connection is insignificant, you're done. Heck, I wouldn't even be surprised if at the end of the story he ends up offing himself. Maybe his twisted mentality somehow made him think he was also connected back to the crime. This is just me guessing.
