Last summer I got my license. In my case, in the country I live in, I had to take 30 hrs total of theory classes for the C1 type. You have one month to take all the classes in working days. Some people took six hours of classes per day and could start the practical course next week. I had some stuff going on, so it took me two weeks. Then they do an open rulebook exam. Some people actually fail and have to wait another week to get their exam re-scheduled.
And then, the practical course... You could only take 6 hours a week and have to complete the 40 hrs of driving with the instructor before a month passes.
The thing is... We are thrown directly to the street. I was driving a 12-seat Van on the chaotic streets of my city for the first fucking time. It was kinda shocking at first, but over time and practice I got pretty confident with the spacing and changing the gears (We are all taught in manual transmission)
I didn't even have an exam. My instructor simply told me "Man, you're good. Don't worry" and next week I had my license.
In the past, most people didn't even take a course. They just paid for the license and that's it. "Go learn all that stuff yourself"
So I actually feel pretty good for taking the course (That is now obligatory to take)
