Game Club - Vol. 4 Ch. 8 - Abandoned City - 2

Fallout's bandits seem to be doing ok; 100 raiders and supermutants to every food producing 'tato farmer. Probably helps that loot respawns every 3-7 days.

I just don't understand where those raiders in fallout steal food from when I'm rampaging around settlements while making Hitler look like a saint in comparison.

Bandits happen when a creature's way of life is so thoroughly and quickly shattered that they can't even begin to adapt. It happens with both animals and humans, the difference is only looking at it as an ecosystem or an economy.

Too many bandits will obviously cause the system to collapse, but a strong system is one that can handle a few bandits and still function normally. It's not particularly more or less human to devolve into banditry, it's just that a system that collectively has a lot of those edgelords will die, and only the people who managed to get civilization up and running will survive.

Interesting how the perspective changes in the chapters. In the last one I thought the girl is the (cynical yet) more reasonable person. In this one the guy correctly analyzes the situation and the girl is needlessly docmatic in her "everything sucks" mentality.
This of course doesn't mean their characters are unrealistic, in fact it is rather the opposite. They both have their perspective on the world and discuss about it.

(also: the answer to the bandit problem is simple. It doesn't has to be a stable system. 100 bandits on 1 farmer is just a downward spiral towards extinction... the exact pattern they had in the first few chapters.)
