Ganbare! Memeko-chan - Vol. 3 Ch. 38

So on page 1, we're supposed to infer that Sawako is telling Inui that she might be pregnant? I didn't realize that until the end- I thought she was just depressed, Inui conveyed that to Kishida, and then Kishida decided to pop the question. I guess her thinking she was pregnant makes more sense, but it wasn't really clear. Though an off-the-cuff proposal does usually mean pregnancy.

Also, I'm glad that this (probably) negates the chance of any love-triangle shenanigans with Sawako/Kishida/Memeko. That doesn't really seem like Munko's style or the direction the story was going anyway, but that one page at the end of volume 2 where Munko was being coy about Memeko and Kishida got me a little worried.

@spurgleburgle It isn't directly hinted at until page 4 with the whole "don't smoke" line while Sawako held her stomach. The whole chapter is really subtle and contextual, so hopefully that's on the author and not me...

@Denji I don't think it's your fault. I understood it at that page, but it looks like Kishida knew before going to the meeting. I'm guessing that the pages where Sawako talks to Inui and Kishida goes to Sawako are supposed to play on some common Japanese tropes about marriage and pregnancy that we wouldn't as easily recognize here.

Phew -- glad I wasn't the only one confused. I guess in Japan, women's bellies don't get larger when they're pregnant. 😅

I got that she's supposed to be pregnant because why else would she cry in the bathroom?

incase anyone wondering

she thought she's pregnant, hence she told her father not to smoke

later she realized she's not pregnant , hence she told them she's actually not pregnant.

but they still had sex, hence why kishida got smacked after asked by the father "you know the reason right"
