@Thomaster my thought exactly... but when you think logically and politically, using nuke will actually counter-productive as the land that was hit will be poisonous, barren, and uninhabitable for a couple of centuries, probably a decade of centuries... also, indiscriminate nuking and massacre to other cities are just unwise as the problems are laying on their tyrant idiot ruler steered by bitchy bunny... by doing so, not only you will lose their faith but also their support...
if you just had to nuke, its better to nuke the capital directly... but then again, repairing damage will actually easier and faster than building a new capital... besides, even with old/outdated warfare, JSDF still able to overwhelm those backwater barbarians 8-2, so i think nuke is not necessary and a lil bit overkill...
just IMO and an idle talk...

Whats this? Japanese soldiers taking injuries? This needs to happen far more often. Modern millitary vs middle ages would be a slaughter sure, but this is a fantasy world. Someone is going to take a troll powered ballista bolt or a fireball every now and then. The early fights should have had at least one wyvern colliding with a helicopter.

Normally dropped nukes don't have as much fallout as you seem to think, 10 years after Hiroshima was nuked it already had as many people living there again as before, and radiation levels have been normal (IE the same as background radiation) there for decades.
To cause long lasting radiation, you have to drop nukes actually on the ground (or possibly even in a "small" hole) so you create a ton of radioactive soil. But normally they're detonated in the air to both increase explosive radius, and to not fuck up the earth too much.

As for how useful they'd be in this situation, chances are that the Empire isn't going to surrender any time soon, and with Japan so unwilling to just kill the Douche Emperor and take over, there's a decent chance that in the long term there's going to be more destruction and deaths than a single nuke would bring. And as Japan proved in the past, getting nuked does pretty well when it comes to making really prideful and hardheaded countries surrender.

The Type 06 rifle grenade was started in 2006. Only their special forces use underslungs and they don't even have any dedicated light grenadier equipment.

The two nukes were dropped on Japan, after an extensive period of fire bombing their cities, and I'm pretty sure that more were killed by the conventional bombs. The nukes were more of a shock and awe kind of thing, like 'the whole country could be gone, if we drop more, so drop your weapons' kind of message.

Dropping nukes in this situation, will hurt Japan more than it will the Empire, because the Empire can rationalize away the bright light that took their cities away. They have gods that walk among them, one of them must have decided to protect those people from Japanese interference.

@scripted M224 Lightweight Mortar - It's 60mm and seems to fire the same projectile as it's contemporary "knee mortar" cousin, the M6C-210. Either mortar braced on your leg will ensure that you never walk again!

On another note, I love seeing the Chinooks and Hueys out in force. I know the JSDF has Cobras and Apaches but I missed them this chapter. That's a Kawasaki OH-1 flying around beside them.

About the nukes, the difference here is that the imperials are 20 centuries outdated, ww2 was more costly both in casualties and funding. The Japanese at least had machine guns, grenades and bunkered islands, that added to brainwashing and suicide attack.
Invasion of Japan by regular weapons it would have been hellish, and long. And the Soviets were racing to prepare their own, whoever dropped bombs first was turning point in history.

I think you guys are talking about the nuclear option a little too much given that Japan isn't even supposed to possess any.

Since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan has been a staunch upholder of antinuclear sentiments. Its postwar Constitution forbids the establishment of offensive military forces, and in 1967 it adopted the Three Non-Nuclear Principles, ruling out the production, possession, or introduction of nuclear weapons.

Let's say they do have some despite insisting to the rest of the world that they don't even want to have any. Why would they risk exposing this detail over enemies that are practically cave men compared to them? That's the kind of thing you save for a truly important moment, with your back to a wall. A literal secret weapon, I guess.
