actually to be honest i feel sorry foe all the imperial solders too... and to be honest ... the jsdf is ... i mean it's a little unnecessary to kill all these people... its like you have tanks... they have spears... you don't need to shoot them... you drive pasted them and let them try to chip the paint until l they realize it futile and give up .. at this point its like a puppy's trying to assert dominance by humping you're leg and instead of just giving you leg a little shake and telling him no bad dog... instead you get a hammer and smash its paws to a pulp.... its... kinda... excessive if you know what i mean..

@firefox5926 is bad but you have to remember that these same people went into Japan and started killing innocent people because they thought they had the right, plus the world they live in is more crude than ours, they won't hesitate to kill... ALSO the last ones wearing mask are maniacs that won't stop, kinda like a cult, in other words... If they were reasonable they would've stopped when jsdf raided the castle and killed the armored orcs but nah they just keep coming at them...

But I do feel bad for the horses at least... But that's not the jsdf's fault, is the empire for seeing the death face to face and run straight to it.

It seems to me that your under the assumption that they would just stay there a mess around with the tank. If we go by your logic and the JSDF refuses to fire upon the imperial soldiers
while some soldiers would stay and mess with the tank most would move on towards the infantry/base and fight them. What then? lock yourself up so they don't get you? If they don't decide
to attack the personnel locked up they would then move on towards the undefended civilian areas and as we all know they have no qualms about killing and enslaving them. The only way
I would see it as unnecessary violence against the imperial soldiers would be if they would be gunned downed after having surrendered.

maybe it´s because the soldiers maniac like face when he is blowing up the soldiers. so it´s the slow process from being rational to being a maniac witch produces a sour taste at the reader. enjoying blowing up peopole should not be fun, but his face tells us he has fun. at least for my part it does.

@firefox5926 Armchair theorists always advocate for that kind of nonsense. The kind of people who slaughter innocents and enslave others for fun and profit - aka, much of the empire, especially Zorzal and the sweepers - will never stop their evil until the consequences of trying are so costly that there is no conceivable circumstance where they can get a net gain out of it. Simply rolling by in tanks and standing there is a demonstration that you don't have the will to make them suffer until they stop. If they attack until exhaustion and nothing happens in retaliation, they will just disperse and look for softer targets, like unarmed civilians.

Seriously, we have over a dozen CHAPTERS in this series, some recent, that explicitly demonstrate this.

I agree to an extent. While I do not advocate for mindless slaughter and would support the idea to punish such extremism I see no reason why someone shouldn't find pleasure in over coming adversity.

@Baem In the end the soldier is doing his job. If he hated his job, he would perform poorly and would bring down the small strike force. He might look like he enjoys blowing up people, but in reality he's enjoying pulling off tactics and seeing things go as planned, and his group is winning and surviving, not losing and dying. Compare it to a programmer who writes a complicated procedure and finds out it works smoothly and perfectly on the first try with no bugs. Such a coder might also have satisfied expression on their face. The same thing.

Rory is the one who actually derives sexual pleasure from slaughtering people. Blame her, not a random soldier.

@sterven Well, if you have killed as many as that unit, either you get into liking the killing or ending with PTSD, save if you had some screws loose from the beginning or some blind justification (justice, greater good, ...).

There has been instances before that point which shows that unit enjoy their job, including third party testimonies (Misery).

i do feel bad for the horses but atleast they are all dying in fractions of a seconds with all the wars the empire has waged no doubt fighting the JSDF was the most painless death they could have gotten on a battle field
but your analogy with the puppies does fall apart when you look at the amount of soldiers they lose from these kind of operations
in the empire there are atleast a quarter million soldiers... they lost like 200 troops in that raid... the real damage was in the lost of their cavalry units because they where probably the most expensive to maintain
their attack caused very little physical damage to the empire most of the damage was done psychologically
imagine you are an imperial soldier... and you just got word ... that a single JSDF soldier and his friends broke into the castle and slaughtered your countries most skilled troops and left...
man id shit myself if the next day i was told to march into battle against them . in my head my chances of survival greatly increase if i desert the battle even if i was caught by the Imperials thats better than having my head turned to pink mist
not to mention many rumors say the JSDF is quite merciful so yeah

Thanks for updating :)! I also feel bad about the horses. Every time I watch a war movie of some kind with horses in them I've always disliked that the horses had to die too. In real life that stuff happened, it sucks.
