@nogenem My take is that the Gate ripped open a hole in the fabric of reality and both planets are getting pulled into the other dimension. Since the otherworld is the source of the Gate they're experiencing encroachment by the other reality, while the damage this causes is traveling back through the Gate as spacial vibrations which are causing the earthquakes and such on Earth.
Of course I'm just talking out of my ass, but that is what I figure is going on.

Damn I was surprisingly into this chapter. What if it was tied to the gate, and that black mass actually some phenomena related to the Earth? Maybe the gate is causing them to careen towards each other in some way and that black mass is the result. I don't remember if it ever explained whether or not the gate was more of a wormhole to a different place in the same universe space or maybe an alternate universe (I mean magic is a thing there, so I assume that to be the case), but positionally they could be very close to each other if they resided in alternate universes and the linkage by the gate could be causing some stress on the planet. Stands to reason people might wanna take a look around the earth for something similar.

@HDMI1 With the caveat that I'm also talking out of my ass, I'm not sure if it's a translation issue or what the original said, but his talking about a kind of encroachment of "something" from another dimension, and his theory on perception of dimensions don't match.
Since the latter makes more sense, what he's saying is that if you imagine "existence" as a matrix with a large number of axis/dimensions, as 3-dimensional beings (actually 4, due to the time axis), we only can perceive that many dimensions. However, higher order dimensions still exist in that matrix, and something that only exists with perhaps 5 or higher orders of dimensional axis, is causing the "shadow" phenomenon, much like how objects in our level of order can cause something with lower orders of dimensions to form (objects creating shadows).
Using his universal gravity example, something from a higher order can cause distortion in the same "space" as us. If the other scientist hypothesis that dark matter is involved is right, and if dark matter is really some kind of higher order matter, we know dark matter also causes gravitational distortion like regular mass. But it may also have other effects, perhaps if it clumps and accumulates. And that's where the Gate may be involved....or it caused the gate to form, by tearing a hole in space.....a theory that Lelei has already arrived at by commenting on whether it's possible for a mass with certain properties to do such a thing.
@Hell_Satan Technically, it's not quantum physics...yet. Quantum physics uses study of higher order dimensions to try and resolve some outstanding issues with how we understand quantum mechanics....particularly entanglement. But technically, it's not directly related.

This chapter is really good, some serious thinking about the physics of the gate was put in here, i don't have the knowledge to say that it was "accurate" ( more so this being fiction ) but it really felt legit.
The thing i liked most is that Lelei may have some knowhow that shed light in a mystery for minds that have access to knowledge she only got exposed recently.
