@Nep To be fair, the emperor and his cohorts weren't aware of how well off the Jun family is now compared to a couple months ago. They expected to find a weak cripple and his powerless niece, but instead got a buffed uncle, a woman with essentially two familiars AND a powerful demon lord as a brother, and now the Jade Lin army has been summoned. I suspect the plan was to kill the uncle and the daughter quickly while the uncle was away, and then pin their deaths on the grandfather, all while searching for and confiscating the Sky Alarm that is assumed to be held by the uncle. If it was actually held by the grandfather, then they would likely pin him down before he can pull it under the guise of arresting him for murdering his family, just as the Lin family supposedly did.
 
@Svelandria At chapter 5, the prince got attacked by the 'demon lord' that he saw at the MC's house which should be enough of a clue this family has another badass guardian. That is all ignoring the fact that a badass family with a weakling and a cripple AND a bad relationship with the emperor should have more professional guards instead of just one badass grandpa.

Last but not least, they should have contingency plans for IF they fail. Every big ass movements need a Plan B even if Plan A has a 99% success rate. This is especially important when failing Plan A would screw you 20 times over. When you look at chapter 26 it is evident that

The emperor survive because the old man survived. Whats worse, he was spared because the MC couldn't care less. Replace this MC with someone a bit more ruthless and you get them raiding the palace anyway as retaliation for blatantly SENDING assassins the maybe framing the stupid prince if they need an excuse. In other words, the Emperor would have normally been killed immediately because his initial plan failed and had no contingency.
