The check has already proven itself to be detrimental to the stability of the kingdom by virtue of 2 of the 3 dukes rebelling and going to war when they're knowingly sheltering corrupt people despite being told the King intentionally passed on the kingship. The MC is right - during time of chaos and strife things need to become centralized for quicker responses to enemies. Not once did the MC say that it'll be a permanent thing like you're implying it'd be. The 2 Dukes are traitors to the Kingdom - flat out.
