I dropped the LN after the the MC perfectly predicted and planed a war, for the SECOND time. That he did so isn't the problem, it's that the story isn't set up to make such an outcome interesting.
Type 1: If a MC is shown to have an anti-laser force field, and then uses it at the climax of the battle to win the day, most people would be fine with this.
Type 2: If the MC is NEVER shown to have an anti-laser force field, and then uses it (out of nowhere) at the climax of the battle to win the day, most people would NOT be ok with such writing.
This story follows the writing of type 2. The author knows what outcome he wants, but doesn't set it up in a way that is satisfying. The reader isn't giving enough information ahead of time to make the MC look smart, rather than just conveniently having everything go the MC's way. Basically the author isn't smart/talented enough to pull off the story he wants to tell.

Pretty much all of the novels foreshadow pretty heavily how the each arc is going to turn out. IMO main problem is that the author breaks any semblance of narrative structure with long masturbatory rants citing Machiavelli or the like. There are also reams of paper wasted on harem management. The amount of time he devotes to having four girls argue about when they get to jump the MC's junk or why they want to do it so badly is ridiculous. Christ, some of them don't really even have a reason for it. Never going to understand the obsession LN authors have with polygamy.
Not really. There are definitely periods in history where sanitation and hygiene practices were about that bad. The over reliance on cash crops is a bit more nuanced of a problem than the author portrayed but it's still reasonable. At least he didn't go with the crop rotation meme. He did make a bit of a hodgepodge of crises drawn from throughout history (and regions of the world) but his excuse is that reliance on magic caused progress to stray from the path it did in our world. If anything the main problem with how he solves all the crises is the speed with which it happens and the general lack of resistance he faces.

It's a fun twist in the usual isekai, but if you're an economy major like me or something else related to finance you might cringe a little on some of the economical stuff. Anyways, if you find that too much for you, then don't read it because it only gets worse, but if you don't really care then go for it. Some of the jokes are really funny.

It's funny how this "realist" isekai is actually a lot more contrived and naive than your average "kidnap a schoolboy and make him fight Satan" isekai.
But it's reasonably fun and the art is nice. If you're not allergic to vanity and stupidity, it can be enjoyable.

You know you picked the "Right" vassals, when you willingly abdicate the throne and they IMMEDIATELY rebel.
I'd love to see an "Isekai" MC that treats this situation like they did in the actual middle ages. Behead the rebel leaders, and display their heads on pikes outside of the castle.

"What path will his outlook as a realist take Souma and the people of his country down?" I will be honest. That part made me giggle like a Japanese schoolgirl from how stupid it is.

very disappointed in the route they took. the so called "cruelty" was not against the rebellion but amidonia.
What if there is another country like amidonia who wants to invade? does defending yourself now count as cruelty? It sounds so stupid!
The civil war also ended in a terrible manner...
-First of all Carmen could've got out scot-free being a "undercover" agent working for the new king, that way he would be absolved of any crimes. It's the new king anyways there is no reason he can't do that.
-Secondly most of the "rebellion" started or ended absurdly. ie: Castor evacuated and removed all the castle guards only leaving his 100 wyvern army to fight?!?!? MC literally walked into the castle with 20 people and took it over! Forget MC's BS tactic a regular army could've rolled the Castor castle over by sheer numbers! It would have made better sense if Castor's wyvern unit was a part of Carmen's forces because his squadron is so god damn tiny.
-Finally where is amidonia's reinforcement? 55,000 army unit just showed up on their soil for 1 whole day and no one scouted? maybe intel was important for the king that took 30,000 soldiers to invade?

So what famous painting is the 4th volume cover based on?
I enjoyed reading this, but it feels like every ruler isekai is them convincing people just using enlightened modern age reforms instead of playing to the nuisances of the time and handling the balance of power. And the idealist hero will probably be a more apt name for the series.
