I like this manga so far but if I were in their situation I honestly would just kill myself or something. The idea of being one of the last remaining people on Earth and especially in this manga's world is really scary and depressing to me.

Yep, this is probably taking place in a VERY distant future since the ruins at the lower level, which are supposed to be an even more ancient city than the one built upon it, look very much like those of our time.

And by the way, Chiito is so damn smart!
