This is true, but what's also true is that they're being paid peanuts to deal with entire classrooms of kids that would give them shit at the drop of a hat any day of the week. Their superiors are constantly pressuring them to do this or that, too. Underpaid, underappreciated, overworked, overstressed. There's a lot of moving parts here that just spell out misery for anyone involved, honestly. It's not really surprising if the teachers that've been there longer start giving up on the stuff that our MC here is striving for, and just start doing what they have to to get every day at work over with.

that only applies to schools in the US... I think everywhere else teachers are paid quite good for example where I'm from one of the highest payed jobs
