Golden Kamuy - Vol. 21 Ch. 206 - The Distance Between the Two of Them

@Sem At least with Tsurumi and the 7th division, she only needs to give them the key to the gold then goes back to her Kotan, Tsurumi doesn't need her for anything beyond that, unlike Kiroranke and Hijikata who need her to act as a figure for the Ainu revolution.

Sugimoto is much more of a father than Wilk ever was. He wants Asirpa to be what she is, a child. Move aside, Piccolo... Sugimoto has dethroned you as best manga adoptive dad.

As someone who played GoW 4, I’ll just say my favorite quote that may be relevant...
“You must be better than me. Understand?”

I’m on Sugimoto’s side in this btw.

I'm torn, being a Native American... I feel for the Ainu position in society for I and my people are in the same boat...
But I also don't want Asirpa to wind up like myself either. But then if not her, then who?

Though as this is historical fiction, it is inevitable that she will not take up that revolution.

Sugimoto told it to her straight! He may not be a parent, but he plays the role as a guardian figure well.

I am so glad he told her about it, that was bothering me but now that everything has been said, she can make the decision to keep going.

Leaders have the duties to their people, they need to act and sacrifice to accomplish what other cant do, and sometimes they need to pass this to their children................... < THIS IS BULLSHIT if they fight and fail it is completely their fault children should not inherit the regrets of their parents, all this fancy speech of fighting to preserve culture or memories is just the way they use to guilt-trip people in continuing their little self righteous crusades.

The is yes and importance in preserving culture and memory but these assholes are so up the asses in death that they only think in war, they are only trying to get a little kick of satisfaction before they die, if Asirpa wants to protect what she loves it is her decision of how to do it.

If it leads at some point to death and destruction it should be complete of her own volition and will, not this soft-spoken manipulation these assholes pass as righteous justification.

I understand what the father of Koito said but even him didn't want to do a war like wilk. Sugimoto is right. She don't have to do this and also, we all know that Kirokanke manipulate her to think it's the only way. Also, war means a lot of deaths and destruction. Except Ogata because he is a crazy bastard, I'm sure that they all want to go back to their old self even tsurumi who became the man he is because he lost his wife and baby.

I hope Asirpa finds a way to preserve her culture without war, I think that would be a more fitting way for her to protect ancient traditions and stuff.

The conversation is done really well there. Presenting things from different perspective. That many of the ambition of both Kiroranke and Wilk are both noble, and selfish at the same time.
