Their is an interesting double meaning to the mermaid motif-
A lot of them men continue to undermine and take away the voice of Korean woman, even as a group they are suppose to be fighting for Korean people as a whole
the rich josen- who undermines his daughters voice and choices
Haeseoo- who quiet literly took away Soo-A voice
and The widow's brother who took away his sister voice
