When I saw the chapter title, I knew I was in for a healthy dose of sugar-coated fluffiness. So soothing.

But pancakes and salad...? Umm...

You can only suspend disbelief so much. Colette just let things stay that way for like 20 years, and they're only now addressing it when she's thinking of retiring?

Also a wooden stove? Those are basically illegal in most developed countries for their emissions and obvious lack of safety features.

@Ironclad You'd be surprised. People let things slide, forget that things are changing, ignore warning signs.
As to the wooden stove . . . this is clearly a somewhat archaic place.

They've got old-fashioned cars, trains, and telephones, but wealthy land-owners still have armies of servants, so it's probably analogous to some time between 1900 and 1940. Maybe something like Belle Époque or interwar France, judging by the names. Oh, and there's a country of animal-eared people nearby, which is Taishou or late Meiji Era Japan, where the rest of Itou Hachi's works are set.

@Ironclad how many years do you think it took for collete to gain the lady's trust after she gave up on trusting people. how many years of being by her side without giving up. i would think at the very least 12 years. remember she let go of all the servants except collete and i am willing to bet that is because collete chose to stay. she probably didn't care about being payed her main focus was most likely to regain the lady's trust, to be there and take care of her. do you think she could help the lady without the lady's trust? its not as simple as you make it out to be. she has probably been working on helping the lady for all these years and only now has it gotten to the point where she can actually do something
