Kimura can just go ahead and die, this is getting stupid. Not only has he been talking about quitting for several hundred chapters due to his age and record, but he almost commits suicide just so he won't have to fight his friend in a match.

it's really weird to me how they have to kill themselves to make the weight, then gain it all back in a few days for the fight. what's the point of even making the weight, if the fighters can come in and actually FIGHT while overweight? And if you don't let them regain it, who wants to see half-dead boxers going at it?

maybe it's not this bad in real life, or maybe I don't understand boxing.

There is only one association that make weight in no more then 10lb from the limit the day of the fight, but the other association, you can be as much as 40lb more the day of the fight, so yes... they all do it to get advantage over their opponent. Some more then other, but maybe not as much as the manga seem to make you believe.
