It makes sense to me. The author made it clear that Take is especially astute at identifying weaknesses. He also clearly has a very unorthodox style and mentality, which probably plays into why he can identify weaknesses; he is an outside of the box thinker.
Take also benefits from his experience. Somewhere around 1/4-1/2 of Ippo's fights have been against other rookies, and the rest have been boxers with about half as many matches as Take has had. They also have tended to have better records (more knockouts). Take has been in more unusual, unorthodox situations, and knows what to do in them (e.g. he would not have to think about what to do in an unusual clinch situation, unlike Ippo).
Plus, as we have seen in the series, the author frequently likes to make the point that if you have something or someone to fight for, it practically gives you superpowers. He's not 100% consistent about that (annoyingly), but it's kind of a thing.
Personally this fight makes more sense to me than how some other recent fights have gone. Itagaki's fights, Kimura and Aoki's fights, Takamura's fights... they have all been feeling hard to take seriously, like with the stroke of a pen the author will do whatever at any moment.
