She was happy that he likes her too, but then she remembered that tidbit about couples who break up won't go back to being friends.
She was worried about losing him more than she was happy about being liked.
Now the one who was probably responsible for all this decided not to mention it, thinking that it would be all right in the end when given some time (aversion to admission of guilt). I think Shizuku's timidness would cause her to try to reject Kasugai in the end unless the teacher-lover fixes things up.

Why does it matter that there is a chance of not remaining friends after breaking up? Assuming they just remain friends, they would likely drift apart over time anyways, so might as well start dating if you like him. So illogical.

Shizuku doesn't know that. Remember, she's a sheltered girl who has never seen the world, much less the usual future of a group of high school friends. All she knows is that couples don't last forever, and when they do break up, they would drift apart, never to be friends again. It has never come to her mind that friendships don't last forever either - heck, her sister is still friends with Kasugai's aunt.
