I don't think that Ookuma has too much to overcome in respect to her prejudices and sexual identity, since she claims in episode one that she's never been attracted to any guy.

You could arguable extend the series beyond the basic premise without cheap manufactured drama with normal relationship plots. Coming out to family and friends, first night together, maybe moving together, Kanda quitting the cigs, facing prejudice, and so on...
