Yes, otherwise, the warrior class will rule society. This is probably already the setting of this fantasy world.

Guns allow a peasant, with only a week of training, to defeat a warrior who has trained his entire life. Also, wizards tend to be very *well-studied*. Assuming this is the a typical pseudo-medieval fantasy world, a peasant who worries about his crops and maybe if he even has food to eat tomorrow has no time to read grimoires (or even learn how to read). One could argue that crossbows were a thing too, but contemporary armor usually were enough to defeat bolts and arrows. Spears might have been easy to use too, but only in numbers, tight formations, and discipline that they could be used by peasants to defeat knights. So if guns were to be introduced into this world, adventurer warriors and mages would lose their jobs as was hinted in this chapter, and revolutions will happen when peasant revolts are armed with shot and gunpowder.

But you do have a point there. Towns and villages are already protected by adventurers and knights. There's no need to change the status quo. MC - after breaking a tool that was what defined his worth in the party - was a bit anxious and felt that he wanted to do more by directly contributing to the battles.

Hey now that's dangerous talk there. Peasants need to know their place in the world. Their betters know what's good for them and will take care of them as well as peasants deserve. If peasants have a mole problem eating their crops they can do what their forefathers did and place a quest at the local adventurer's guild in the next town over. Sacrifice what crops they can to pay for the reward and hope some adventurers come around and solve the problem before harvest time. I mean just imagine if those savage peasants could just shoot the vermin on their own, and on the same day... Why the whole system would collapse!

@BirchJuice I know it must just be a hell of a coincidence that school shootings happened at the same time as prozac was being given out like candy (1980's) and parents had nannies or tv raise their kids (Gen X 70's-80's). Meanwhile before the 1960's and the hippie dippy generation, schools had rifle competitions with calibers ranging from .22's to 30-06 with no problems. Also ever see what prozac does to a kid? I've seen plenty growing up they went from mildly bullish kids to time bombs. One wrong move or word to or around them and get ready for a fight.

He forgot that what he make is not exactly a gun that can be used by a kid or woman effectively, its a musket, and musket need a massed strength of everyone to be useful and shot in a volley, not to mention it takes ages to load and can't hit further than 100 meter or so accurately (except if mc knows about rifling)

I doubt he knows the tech of an actual bolt action rifle or bullet, not to mention the lack of precision tools to make it and the fact that he need PLENTY of bullet to make it useful
