Even ignoring D&D that's fairly popular as a base, there's an insane amount of rpg's with a hp cap of 999 over there..
(Common reason for using phase changes with separate hpbars to somewhat circumvent the cap.)
That amount of damage would be rather high then too, especially since the demon lord only got his decapitated head left.
