Well, I was thinking from the very first few pages that the mother and father's marriage was not doing well, and perhaps Rui was a child born of an affair. The fact that the mother kept saying "who does she get this from?" and was slumped over at the end with a bottle of alcohol indicated the marriage was not doing well. The father probably just let the mother be a bitch because he didn't want her to come after him.

Considering her parents are supposedly badminton coaches, you would think they would want her to always play to her potential.


That last page seems to prove, that Rui is not the mother's kind, and possibly born of an affair by the father.


Oh yeah...and why the hell are Ayano's friends just sitting up in the stands chatting with Uchika about the match. Why aren't they asking her why the hell she abandoned her daughter, and why the hell she isn't trying to make it up to her?

Right. Okay... First of all, nobody wins with those numbers. Except if they are playing someone who never played any badminton or sport at all. Second, no parent in the world - I don't care how fucked up they are - would bully their own kid for performing that well at something. Even if they are playing the kids of their bosses. And yes, not even if they prefer their son to their daughter, because in that case they would just forbid her to play.
Third, WTH is up with the quotation marks?
Fourth, pshychological abuse doesn't make you a super-athlete with emotional issues. It makes you an emotional wreck who can't perform under pressure. Except in badly written plots.

So we got yet another chapter wasted on bigging up yet another superhuman blonde final boss the dark-haired girls can't possibly compete with instead of being able to watch an actual game. The mangaka is even bigging her up so much that he's planning on letting her losing to Ayano while giving it her all her intention her real goal.
In other words, the chunibyou "unbeatable blonde final boss" trope is so strong in this one that the mangaka can't even stand to let her loss be an actual loss.
Hey Kosuke! We don't care about your boring chunibyou obsessions. When are we going to get to see a badminton game?
