Doesn't seem like Dark Souls to me. I checked the intro movies and Dark Souls doesn't have a girl from what I could see, and while there was a girl in a similar pose in the opening cinematics for DS2, she was wearing a cloak, not a headband/tiara. Neither clip ended with an explosion.

So I'm still open for more suggestions XD
 
@Morsealworth I'm thinking it might be Panzer Dragoon Orta? There's a girl in the intro (not exact hairdo but she does pass the pose) and it ends with an explosion (and enough action to excite people).

Dates the comic to 2002 and XBOX though.
 
@Morsealworth My guess is a stretch too, so if you or anyone else come up with other suggestions I'd be happy to hear them (mostly to sate my idle curiosity, but still) XD
 
@Simpleton Haruko was 8 in 1999, at least that we know for sure. And her mom is trying to marry her off, so she's at least 16 now. Knowing she doesn't work, she's probably 18 or more. So the setting is in 2010s after all.
 
@Morsealworth Good catch. Can't be XBOX then. But 2010 is mid-generation so it wouldn't be a new console, just one of the slim versions.

So likely its 2006-2007 and XBOX 360. Or maybe a year or so later but still an XBOX 360. (Haruko could turn 18 as early as in 2008)

This makes me wonder if it's supposed to be Blue Dragon (the game is a bit more cartoony, but everything else seems to fit)

@Morsealworth Dragons Dogma - I was considering that one too. It's got the gritty style the picture would fit, but I didn't find the same pose. It's at least an equally good guess as Blue Dragon at least. Maybe even better. :)
