These battle scenes really do feel like they're from a different manga and I'm still not used to it

The really frustrating thing about this manga is that it's essentially unstoppable force versus immovable object. It's an eternal stalemate, with only escalation and shocking value to give it a reason to live. The sole fact that this "sequel" to the "original" Higanjima is in fact just another arc without even a temporal hiatus to justify another title is quite telling.

Humans are f*cked. The strongest warrior is already too damaged and they haven't even fought Okonoomi (goat warrior) or Miyabi yet.
