Quick tip for the text with white glow in GIMP

Make the text. Add a new blank layer under it. Select the text layer again. Go to Layer > Text to Path. Then select the blank layer, and do Select > From Path. Then Select > Grow (2px or whatever looks good), then Edit > Fill with BG Color. Then you can merge the two layers, Layer > Crop to Content, and then rotate the layer.
