he has the perfect girlfriend and he also wants to keep his childhood friend even though she has feelings for him.
for me this comes off as cruel not smooth. So u can just be the 3rd wheel coming along with us and will never have feelings about u.
The better thing would be to create distance and let her move on find someone for herself that can make her happy. The way it is now the GF will be filled with those feelings that she mentions in this chapter and childhood friend of course another victim of the curse forever on the sidelines.
