They had huge sandy river beaches within an hour's or so drive of where I used to live, just outside of Montreal. Then again, the river in question is the St. Lawrence which is as wide as a lake anyway.

@Sonaldo Kids in countryside are monsters I tell ya. My father back in the day when he was about 14 years old. The guy walked like 10 Km to collect a bag of rice for a huge family and brought it back. And that fucking bag of rice was almost 50 kg.
