If I remember correctly, children in the orphanage are all treated as disposable workers for any blue robes aiming to acquire some man power (gray robe priests). Rather than commoner common sense, they’re urged to learn noble/church common sense, since nobody in society supports them other than this way of life.
As for the priestesses, it’s they’re clearly treated as concubines to fawn over their priest, or their guests...
That aside, like how Lutz’s common sense says to gather in the forest every day to look for firewood or anything edible, Gil’s common sense is that his needs, or living conditions should have been provided for, and/or improved. Mine’s a very big exception tho.
