Is he a total moron? A date is just time you spend together having fun. It doesn't have to serve a purpose, check certain boxes on a list or adhere to certain standards in any way. All his fussing about did nothing but make the experience worse.

Yeah I've read that spoiler and sure is like one of Seo Koji's shit walk of a manga. Seo's fans will say otherwise. At least in his manga, there's a "good ending" in it. Or any reader of this manga, they'll say, "Seo's ending is better than this". Maybe. Probably. What gets me the most in Seo's manga is his how he develops his plots. It's a walking disaster of a train wreck and ends it bitter sweetly. No, you can't justify Seo's manga endings with that kind of ending. It's still crap at the end.
The problem came with this manga once Kobayakawa chose Hoshino to be his girlfriend. Sure, Hoshino is the titular character but that doesn't justify as to how and why would Kobayakawa would fall in love with her. Is it because of how she lives her life or the decision she takes for herself? She couldn't even show her true face to her friends and even true to herself. Hachiman would like to have a word with you Kobayakawa.
The author crumbles his own manga at that point. At the very least, if he could've chosen Kanou, he wouldn't have this kind of shitty development where he needs to be secretive of his own relationship. It sucks to have that kind of relationship. It's like she herself isn't proud of their relationship. With Kanou, he wouldn't have that kind of situation. She herself will bark down at anyone questioning their relationship and she couldn't care less to anyone what it would look like to others about their relationship.
This is like Ichigo 100% all over again except for the secret relationship and whatnot. Damn I love that manga for it's bitter sweet moments and that ending. Couldn't predict the author would do that.

I just read the spoiler.....well, the RAW. Without the full translation i can't make much of it.
but its giving the impresion that they broke up because if Hoshino keep dating him, it'll bring unhappines? but she also acepted herself and stop depending of makeup. Kobayakaba end up alone again because of the change of classes but with the resolve to be better (again...) and with Hoshino has his inspiration. If thats the ending....i don't like it. At all. Is a more realistic and grounded ending....considering the inconsistensis in their relationship....but thats my problem. I don't want realism. I have enough of it, dammit

I don't think most people realize in Ichigo100% that the manga leads to the ending girl the whole way, just not so obviously. What it does is play off the "destined girl" trope so everyone treats it like "oh he's gonna end up with that girl anyway, whatever" so they don't notice the actual developments of the other girl.

I suggest anyone who read it and thought the ending was a sudden switch or the story didn't lead to that ending, they should read it again. This time go in with a neutral opinion of the girls and pay attention to how the girls develop with the MC. For me the twist was more "wow she actually followed through with how the story was going" rather than "meh, open ending" or "Meh, destined girl ending".
In Ichigo100% postscript, the mangaka even says she ended it based on how it naturally developed and didn't factor in character favoritism.

@Bladestone Yeah, that's what I like about the author and the manga. Couldn't agree more. Yamada - kun also comes to mind with what Ichigo 100%'s author did. We know that Yamada and Urara will end up all the way but the author put a huge plot in there and their journey through their relationship. On how their relationship develops and Urara's wanting to reconfirm Yamada's feelings for her weren't influenced by magic.
Ichigo's Manaka and Nishino were somehow similar albeit different in how things turn out for them. Their turn on, off and lastly on of their relationship made things complicated for them both and most importantly for their feelings. As I was reading Ichigo, I thought for sure it would have an open ending but was surprised he still ended up with Nishino. This is one of my favorite rom com manga and probably the very first romance manga I've invested my time. If Nisekoi had a slight semblance of a plot on it, I might've considered finishing the manga too but alas, there was too much pointless chapters in the manga and I've felt no sense of accomplishment after I've just read the last chapter of it. Yuragi - sou suffers from this as well.
Luckily, 5Toubun no Hanayome is still on going. So I still have that manga. As long as the author won't fuck up with his own manga, I think it will have the same sense of accomplishment reading it once it ends. Komi - san too is one of those manga. Character development for both manga (5toubun and Komi - san) are pretty interesting and progressing that you'll wanting to ask for each chapter to come sooner.

Thinking about it again, Hoshino's author forced the male MC and female MC to be together just because she was the titular character. One manga I've think that titular MC didn't get her/his love interest or if there's even a love interest is Akame ga Kill. Of course, I think Akame doesn't even have a love interest in the male MC so there's that.
