Houkago Teibou Nisshi - Vol. 1 Ch. 6 - Sea King

ah, this chapter remind me of my first experience catching flounder. My first thought is, this weird mutant fish can't be edible and throw it back to the ocean.

Man, Paulbunyantrophy always finds the most fun little mangas all the time. Thanks for the translation!

This hits the Cute Girls Doing Cute Things spot. I'm liking the trend for in-depth hobbyist CGDCT, we've come a long way since K-On!.

Kaiou means "sea king" but the maru part is kind of untranslatable. Suffice to say, it's a common suffix added on the ships. There are many stories about why, but one of the most common ones is that the word maru, meaning "circle" is a good omen allowing the ship to return (or circle back) to the harbor where it left on the often perilous journey. It's added to a lot of other objects now as a sign of affection as well.

Why does everyone in Japan have repressed memories of drowning as a child? Or total amnesia of whoever they hung out with in elementary school before moving? Seems like a pretty concerning trend.
