The "Matriarch/Patriarch" thing was probably the fault of the translator. Then again, Japan IS a male-dominated society. The general view of the Japanese government is that women should be at home, barefoot in the kitchen making dinner while popping kids out of their belly on a regular basis. Maybe the mangaka subconsciously used "patriarch" because "leaders shouldn't be women".
