This story isn't all that bad, but it's not that great either. It has the stench of mid-late 2000s anime, which was heavily directed by an overbearing editor. Just everything about it screams "Someone tried really hard to give it structure and random plot points", for a story that doesn't really seem to need it, or had any idea how to do itself.

tbh even if this was really bad id still read for the art. the mangakas style is really eclectic. MC looks like a high budget late 70s ova character crashed into an isekai trash heap in 2015. heroine looks like she got stolen from a prototype flcl concept art folder from 1995. until shes drawn at just the right angle and suddenly becomes literally just an evangelion sketch.

The summary really does not do this one justice. No, it's not the most original concept or plot, but the execution and character work is excellent. Sure you might have already seen an OP protag at a magic school who is hiding his true abilities, but you might not have seen an supporting cast whose names you can actually remember, meaningful and logical interactions with adults and other authority figures, and an MC who is reluctant to speak about his past trauma because of the guilt he is still wrestling with. A diamond in the ruff for this type of story (or I could just have read way to many REALLY shitty isekai)

Isnt the best story I will admit it has predictable plot points. But honestly the concept and ideas it’s trying to use aren’t all bad. Not saying the comments on it are completely wrong but doesn’t deserve the hate. Also not sure if I’m just remembering wrong but wasnt there an anime with a similar concept. Not sure if it’s the generic start or if it’s just me
