@Jet: Although the word tampon (internal) was used, she's actually talking about pads (covering the outside). "Plaster" is what Band-aids are called in some countries. Having been a boy, she never needed to know about women's hygiene. To her it looked like a giant Band-aid so she applied applied it like one, sticky side down. (Ouch!) It's actually supposed to stick to the underwear. In spite of what Xspeed said, some girls make that mistake too.
