I also found that part of the dialogue a bit weird.
After thinking about it for a moment I assumed that she meant to say they first tracked the vampire lord for several months and then found and fought it.

In the novel she doesn't mention a time frame, only that one escaped the battle and she had to hunt it down in her father's place. She also refers to her tribe as beastfolk, not furry. Although the art for this is great, and the story is fun to read, I won't be surprised if there are inconsistencies.
