@Solemmaru No, his cultivation level DID increase from (9th to 13th layer of Qi Refining) using the energy that Patriarc Reliance put on those lamps. The point is that technically no one should be able to surpass the ninth (people should directly go to Fundation Establishment) because the Heavens forbid it, but MC can since he used that relic of his friend (don't remember the name). In the LN is all better explained, unfortunately this adaptation don't give it credit.
