Tho it does interfere with the wedding preparations, i think its also a good way for the other nobles to know about Ripley's capabilities other than being the Duke's fiancee. It's not like she can't do business AFTER the wedding. Wedding is a one day event and the date is already fixed, whereas doing business is like a career.
