has the title been explained before? why is it 'I Want to Round You Square'? i'm not a native speaker so the title doesn't really make sense to me

I don't recall if it's been explained in the manga or the notes, but two possible explanations:

1. Square peg in a round hole, an expression of forcing yourself or someone else to conform to an ill-fitting role.

2. Squaring the circle, an ancient math puzzle that is proven to be impossible with the restrictions of a compass+straightedge only.
(Emphasis added because many people leave this important tidbit out, leading to idiots and fools claiming so-called "solutions" which violate the restrictions.)

Definition one would obviously describe FMC's predicament quite well, and even the male lead to a certain extent as he realizes his feelings.
Definition two, meaning "literally impossible", would describe the male lead's (initial) assessment of him falling in love with FMC.

It is unlikely to be referring to a literally round-the-corner rounded-corner square, known as a squircle.

@imtaciturn @justforthelulz actually i believe it’s a reference to “be there or be square!” kind of thing, where a square is someone who is boring or whatever, and so the opposite (in theory) of that would be a circle (ML) and he’s trying to “round” her, aka opening her up to more fun things and to be less straight-laced, so to speak!! just my interpretation, though!

@calvitre I was thinking the same thing, though I always thought of it as an English idiom, not a Japanese one. Since the English title is a literal translation as far as I can tell, I figured the Japanese idiom might mean something else; all the same it's interesting that either way, the title works.

@chonkury oh!! interestingly enough the english title is included in the japanese title! meaning, we didn’t translate it that way, it’s actually included in all of the chapters and covers etc. as “I Want to Round You Square.” (you can see it underneath the chapter titles; we didn’t add those in, the author had them there in the raw.) either way, definitely interesting!!
