But I think the manga is implying that he was probably in denial about what his talents are best suited for.

@PTRB Yes I think he did finally come to terms with the fact he can't be the type of adventurer he wanted to be. Though, as he said he hasn't given up on being a adventurer because being a lord a administering some land is its own adventure. Like he said, he has undertaken a quest like an adventurer to develop and make this land prosper. So he's still a adventurer at heart.
